We believe in the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit being one.

1. Our Beliefs / የእምነት መሠረቶች

1.1 የቤተ ክርስቲያን ትርጉም
  • 1.1.1 የእግዚአብሔር ማደሪያ ቅዱስ ስፍራ (ዘፍ ፳፰፡፲፮-፲፯፤ ፩ ነገ ፱፡፩-፫፤ ፪ ዜና ፯፡፲፩-፲፮)
  • 1.1.2 የእያንዳንዱ ክርስቲያን ሰውነት (ዮሐ ፲፬፡፳፫፤ ፩ ቆሮ ፫፡፲፮-፲፯፤ ፩ ጴጥ ፪፡፭፤ ራእ ፫፡፳)
  • 1.1.3 የክርስቲያኖች አንድነት/ኅብረት (ማቴ ፲፰፡፳፤ ሐዋ ፰፡፩-፫፤ ፲፩፡፳፭-፳፮፤ ፩ ጴጥ ፭፡፲፫)
1.1 Definition of Church
  • 1.1.1 The sacred place and indwelling house of God. (Genesis 28:16-17; 1 Kings 9:1-3; 2 Chronicles 7:11-16)
  • 1.1.2 The body of each and every Christian. (John 14:23; 1 Corinthians 3:16-17; 1 Peter 2:5; Revelation 3:20)
  • 1.1.3 The communion of Christians. (Matthew 18:20; Acts 8:1-3; 11:25-26; 1 Peter 5:13)
1.2 መጽሐፍ ቅዱሳዊ መሠረት

1.2.1 ብሉይ ኪዳን፡ የኖኅ መርከብ (፩ ጴጥ ፫፡፳-፳፩)፣ ቤቴል፣ የመገናኛው ድንኳን (ዘፀ ፴፫፡፯-፲፩)፣ ምኵራብ (ሕዝ ፲፩፡፲፮)፣ የሰሎሞን መቅደስ።

1.2.2 ሐዲስ ኪዳን፡ ክርስቶስ መሥራች ነው (ሐዋ ፳፡፳፰)። ቅዱስ ዮሐንስ አፈወርቅ በዓለ ኀምሳን "የቤተ ክርስቲያን የልደት ቀን" ይለዋል።

1.2 Biblical Foundation of the Church

1.2.1 Old Testament Imagery: Ark of Noah (Genesis 8), Bethel (Gen 28:10-22), Tent of Meeting (Exo 33), Synagogue (Ezekiel 11:16), Temple of Solomon.

1.2.2 New Testament: Christ is the founder (Matt 16:17-18; Acts 20:28). Pentecost is the birthday of the Church.

The Nicene-Constantinopolitan Creed

“And we believe in one, holy, universal, apostolic church.”

Council of Nicaea (A.D 325) • Council of Constantinople (A.D 381) • Creed (Credo) = “I Believe”

2. Orthodox Church Building & Symbolism

፫ቱ የቤተ ክርስቲያን ክፍሎች (ለምሳሌ ሰማያዊ ከተሞች)፡

  • ቅኔ ማኅሌት፡ ካህናትና መዘምራን ዜማ የሚያቀርቡበት።
  • ቅድስት፡ ምእመናን ቅዱስ ቍርባን የሚቀበሉበት።
  • መቅደስ፡ ታቦቱ የሚቀመጥበት (ለካህናትና ዲያቆናት ብቻ)።

ጉልላት፡ የሰማይ ምሳሌ። መንበር፡ ታቦት የሚቀመጥበት ስፍራ።

ቤተልሔም፡ "የእንጀራ ቤት"፤ ምስራቅ በኩል የሚገኝ የቍርባን ዝግጅት ስፍራ።

The Three Internal Sections (Heavenly Cities):

  • Quine-Mahelet: First section for liturgical hymnody and clergy.
  • Queddest: Where Holy Communion (Holy Qurban) is communicated.
  • Maqdes/Sanctuary: Innermost part where the Ark (Tabot) rests.

Dome: Symbol of heaven. Altar/Menber: Central place where the Tabot rests.

Entrance: Men (North), Women (South), Clergy (East). Gates symbolize the Trinity and levels of Ordination (Bishop, Priest, Deacon).

3. Facing the East at Prayer / ወደ ምስራቅ መዞር

  • ምስራቅ የብርሃን መገኛ (ክርስቶስ የጽድቅ ፀሐይ)። ሚል ፬፡፪፤ ሕዝ ፵፬፡፩-፪
  • ገነት በምስራቅ ስለተተከለች። ዘፍ ፪፡፰
  • የጌታ ዳግም ምጽዓት ከምስራቅ ስለሚሆን። ዘካ ፲፬፡፬፤ ሐዋ ፩፡፲፩
  • Source of light; Christ is the “Sun of Righteousness.” Malachi 4:2; Ezekiel 44:1-2
  • Garden of Eden was in the East; aspiration to Paradise. Genesis 2:8
  • The glorious Second Coming will appear in the East. Zechariah 14:4; Acts 1:11

4. The Cross & Symbolism / ቅዱስ መስቀል

መስቀል የድኅነታችንና የድል ምልክት ነው።

  • የእጅ መስቀል፡ ለምርቃት የሚውል።
  • የዑደት መስቀል፡ በአገልግሎት ጊዜ ምእመናንን ለመባረክ።
  • ማተብ፡ ክርስቲያኖችን ከአረማውያን የሚለይ።
  • የሰጎን እንቁላል፡ በቤተ ክርስቲያን ጉልላት ላይ (የእግዚአብሔርን ጥንቃቄ ያሳያል)።

The Cross is the sign of peace, victory, and eternal hope.

  • Hand Crosses: Carried by priests for blessing.
  • Processional Crosses: Used to bless the four corners of the world.
  • Neck Crosses (Matab): Outward symbol of faith since early times.
  • Ostrich Eggs: Symbolize God's divine providence and constant contemplation.

5-7. Incense, Lights & Icons / ዕጣን፣ መብራትና ሥዕላት

White: Illumination, purity, eternity, grace. (Ex: Robes of newly baptized).
Blue: Heavens, mystery of Divine Life, humility. (Ex: St. Mary's robe).
Red: Life, blood, sacrifice, divinity. (Ex: Tunic of Jesus).
Purple: Supreme power, royal and priestly.
Green: Revival, growth, hope, the Holy Spirit.
Yellow/Gold: Truth, divine light, eternity.
Brown: Earth, poverty, humility (Monastic habits).
Black: Denial of light, renunciation, mystery.

Annunciation Icon / የብሥራት ሥዕል

Key Symbols: Three Stars (Perpetual Virginity), Spinning Gold (Holy Spirit weaving humanity/divinity), White Cloud (Presence of the Father).
